How to Request a UPC/GTIN Exemption from Walmart

Walmart usually requires a unique product code (UPC, EAN, or GTIN) for each product you list. If you don’t have UPCs, you can either buy them and upload them to PODtomatic or request an exemption from Walmart.

How to Apply for a UPC/GTIN Exemption

Follow these steps to request an exemption:

  1. Log in to your Walmart Seller Account.
  2. Click the ? (Help icon) at the top right.
  3. Click "Contact Support."
  4. Write "Request UPC/GTIN Exemptions."
  5. Select "Request UPC/GTIN Exemptions."
  6. Click "Still need help?"
  7. You can call, email, or chat with Walmart support.
  8. Tell them you want to apply for a UPC/GTIN exemption for these categories:
    • Home (for Drinkware products)
    • Household, Industrial Cleaning & Storage (for Candles)
    • Occasion & Seasonal (for Ornaments)
    • Fashion (for Bracelets)
  1. Answer a few more questions.
  2. Wait for Walmart’s approval.

What If Walmart Doesn’t Approve?

Walmart does not guarantee exemptions. If they don’t approve your request, you’ll need to buy UPC codes and upload them to PODtomatic.
